Breeding
Breeding a
minority breed is always tempting, however as an owner of a Miniature
Pinscher it is not only your responsibility but your duty to
consider the pedigree of the bitch, but also the pedigree of the dog
you intend to use.
Careful research can give an insight into what a dog
or bitch looked like, it can also reveal if there was any evidence
of undesirable traits.
If we
allow indiscriminate breeding, we could destroy years of work by
previous breeders who have carefully planned each mating to remove
undesirable traits and improve the overall health and appearance
of the Miniature Pinscher breed.
For those who are new to
this breed let me dispel any delusions you might have that breeding
Miniature Pinschers is profitable, it's not because the costs
involved are not always obvious,
No responsible breeder is
going to allow you to use their stud dog if you haven't had the relevant
health checks and don't have the papers to prove the results.
What happens if the bitch
gets into difficulties and requires emergency treatment?
(Breeding related
conditions are not covered by pet insurance).
Eclampsia Free pdf
download - Eclampsia is a condition that occurs when there is a
sudden drop in the level of calcium in the blood. This condition
frequently occurs in lactating bitches, usually when the puppies are
demanding large quantities of milk.
Can you afford to feed and
vaccinate several growing puppies until such time as you find them
suitable homes?
What if no suitable home
can be found?
Have you considered what
you’ll do if a puppy is returned weeks or even months later because the
owners can’t cope or feel that the breed isn’t for them after
all.
